William V. Petrere took this picture of the courthouse from the northeast corner of the square and used it as a notification card for his business, the Salem Camera Shop, 104. S. Main, Salem, IN 47167 (812)883-2299. This card, postmarked from Louisville on Jan. 19, 1988, and sent to an address in Borden, carries a 14-cent Sinclair Lewis portrait stamp. (The Louisville postmark was normal for the period, unfortunately -- all mail from Salem to other zip codes was sent to Louisville for processing.) Here's a look at a clean version of the card with the heavy postmark edited out.
