The Washington County Historical Society restored the John Hay House to an 1800s appearance (compare this picture to the cards from the 1900s and the 1930s.)

This card was published by D. J. Mahuron, Box 50, Salem, Indiana and printed by the Dexter Press, West Nyack, New York, numbered 2921-D. The caption reads:

Built in 1824 as a school. John Hay, Secretary and confidant to President Lincoln and Secretary of State for Presidents McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt, was born here October 8, 1838. Operated as part of JOHN HAY CENTER by Washington County Historical Society, Salem, Indiana."

The card was purchased at the Stevens Museum on July 5, 1980.
