Celebration at Beck's Mill, Washington County, Indiana

This card, like the previous Beck's Mill view, is unmailed and undated, and equally hard to assign to a decade. There's a caption on the back, but it's no help -- the text is exactly the same as the previous card, though it comes from a different publisher.

So I've grouped it with the Kropp card in the 1940s. It probably belongs earlier. The bunting and the tables of food indicate a celebration of some kind, and the long dresses on the women, coupled with an absence of derby hats on the men, point toward a date as early as the centennial of the mill in 1908. The photograph could have been taken at a 100th birthday celebration and printed as a postcard later, perhaps in the 1920s.

This card was published by the Auburn Greeting Card Co. of Auburn, Indiana, which published many local views like this one on smooth white stock. (4/23/01)
