This card is part of a set published by Curt Teich. Or actually, part of three different sets. The first set was apparently prepared by the Curt Teich company in Chicago for Robertson's Drug Co. in 1931. (The production number on this card, 1A1339, indicates the first year of the "A" decade, the 1930s -- 1931.) Those cards credit Robertson as publisher. The set was apparently reprinted without a publisher credit -- date unknown -- to create a second version. And in 1952 the 1930s set -- or four cards from it, at least -- were combined with several more modern cards into a larger set printed by Curt Teich for Apple's Drugs.
This card is from the Robertson Drug Co. set. It shows a John Hay Birthplace much gentrified since the early 1900's cards -- it's acquired a marker in the front yard and a side porch. (See the John Hay House cards of the 1900s and the 1970s. And if you're interested, there's quite a bit more about John Hay.) (8/28/01)
