First Baptist Church, Salem, Indiana

This card of the Baptist church is postmarked 1951 but the photograph probably dates to 1936 or 1937. It is from the Wayne Paper Box and Printing Corp. series and numbered E-594.

The photograph is too narrow to fill the frame of the card, so the extra space on the right and left edges is filled with bands of benday screen. The sign on the house at the extreme right of the picture says "Rooms to Rent" -- an activity that continued into the 1950s, when the house was owned by Dr. Ed Rhetts.

The card was postmarked 4 p.m., Nov. 13, 1951, and sent by the patron saint of Salem postcards, Mrs. Blanch Packwood, from Campbellsburg, Indiana, to Laporte, Indiana, in a card club swap. (4/16/00)
