This card creates something of a dating problem for the Tresslar series. It's clearly the same factory building that appears in the Bregstone P.T.V. card of the Cabinet Factory at the same period -- the late 'teens or early '20s. The postmarks on the other Tresslar and Auburn Post Card Mfg. Co. cards I've collected run from the early 1920s to 1930. The half-tone letterpress printing technology used for the cards is evidence that they were printed during or after World War I (when United States postcard makers lost access to German lithographic printers). But the Sesquicentennial History says that the furniture factory, then called the Stout, Mahorney, Duckwall Company, moved to this site on the banks of Blue River after its previous building burned in 1911, and by 1913 it had gone through two name changes to become the Stout, Smith Trust. If that's so, then the Tresslar cards should be dated to that same period, 1911-1913, based on the caption of this card. (9/6/02)
