This card is identified on the front with the number "2057" and in the stamp box on the back as a "Brownette Made by C. U. Williams, Bloomington, Illinois." It is evidently one of a series of cards. I've assigned it to the decade of the 1910s mostly because this card was postmarked in 1911. The next card, also a Brownette, is a view of the high school taken when it was brand-new, which probably dates the series before 1910.

The Brownette name reflects the sepia tone of the cards. They are photoengravings printed in sepia ink, probably to imitate toned real-photo postcards.

This card was postmarked from Kemp, Ill., on July 10, 1911, and addressed to Mrs. Warder Shanks, Salem, Ind. The message reads, "Hello Aunt Pearl, arrived alright. Well this is all for this time. Justus came after us. from Chloe."
