This real-photo card shows the historical marker erected in front of the John Hay Birthplace by the Washington County Historical Society in 1916, 11 years after Hays' death. The marker has been rebult in the intervening century, the original geodes replaced by smooth concrete work, but the plaque, shown in this photograph taken Feb. 13, 2006, is still the original: The card has a plain back and is unused.
