Washington County Courthouse, Salem, Indiana

Photographers obviously prefer the view of Washington County Courthouse from the south: there are some 16 views of this side of the Courthouse in this collection, and only two of the north side. This one is very much like others, and in fact is an exact duplicate of one of them, the Washington County Courthouse (Fall) card earlier in this decade. That card is a real-photo, and this card, a half-tone engraving, might have been made from a print of it.

Like the other Weixelbaum view of the Courthouse, this one has apparently been clumsily vignetted with a pair of blunt scissors. It has also been given a leftward tilt that corrects the keystoning of the clock tower in the photograph, but but puts everything else on the city square on an unnaturally sharp slope.

This card is numbered "K 254" on the left edge of the back, just the same as the view from the north. The Weixelbaum card of the Christian Church is numbered "K 1028."

This card is unused. (3/30/04)
