This view of the Hay house was probably photographed close to the time the card was published at the end of the decade of the 1910s: The roof eaves extend farther out from the walls, which indicate it's apparently been reroofed since the views used for the first and second Souvenir Postal series. (The shutters that show on those cards are missing as well.) But while the roofline is the same as the Curteich and McClintock cards of the early 1930s, it doesn't yet show the monument that was placed in the front yard in 1916.

The card was mailed on July 23, 1913 from Salem to Miss Ella Aldine Gardner, Crothersville, Indiana, c/o Bertha Gardner. the message reads, "Dear Aldine: How are you and 'mamma' getting along? I have not heard from you yet. What do you want 'dady' to bring you? Your papa." (5/16/06)
