Flood Scene Looking South, Salem, Indiana

"Flood Scene, Feb. 14, Salem, Ind. 6385." says the caption inked into the negative for this view of what appears to be Brock Creek taken looking south from the Mulberry Street bridge, with the Market Street bridge visible past the buildings at the left edge of the view. The card was mailed from Salem on June 20, but the year is missing from the postmark. It is probably 1909 -- a similar card sold on eBay bore a 1909 postmark. This is a "real-photo" card (see its companion flood view, the next card, for more explanation) and it is credited on the back to C.U. Williams of Bloomington, Ill., who also did the street views earlier in this decade. (3/2/00)
