This photograph of the elemlentary school is taken from an angle rarely chosen by photographers -- the north side of the building. A neatly fenced garden or field is visible in the foregraound -- land that was later built up and has long been covered with houses.

This edifice, built in 1900, was the pride of the town.

This card was mailed on August 27, 1909 to Anthony Burns, Clintonsville, W. Va. The message on the three-quarter divided back reads "Ruth Hardin, Salem, Indiana, Box 351." The postmark is clearly Aug. 27, which makes the "9-26-09." in red ink a bit of a mystery. (06/25/04)
