This photograph of the elemlentary school is taken from an angle rarely chosen by photographers -- the north side of the building. A neatly fenced garden or field is visible in the foregraound -- land that was later built up and has long been occupied by houses.

This edifice, built in 1900, was a very modern structure with the latest in educational equipment and facilities.

This card was mailed on August 27, 1909 to Anthony Burns, Clintonsville, W. Va. The message on the three-quarter divided back reads "Ruth Hardin, Salem, Indiana, Box 351." The postmark is clearly Aug. 27, which makes the "9-26-09." in red ink a bit of a mystery. (06/25/04)
